Histomorphology and Scanning Electron Microscopy of the Lingual Tonsil in Goats
نویسنده
چکیده
According to Nickel et al., (1979), diffuse lymphocytic accumulations in the tongue of domestic animals were grouped under tonsillar tissue. The lingual tonsil was limited to the root of the tongue in sheeps (Cocquyt et al., 2005), horses (Kumar and Timoney, 2005b) and bovines (Cocquyt et al., 2008). This tonsil is involved in processing antigens because of its close association with diffuse lymphoid tissue and high endothelial venules, making it the first line of defense. A perusal of literature revealed only few studies on the lingual tonsils in goats and hence the present work was undertaken. Materials and Methods

Light and scanning electron microscopic study of the lingual structure in the budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus)
BACKGROUND: The tongue, which plays a very important role in food intake by vertebrates, exhibits significant morphological variations that appear to represent adaptation to the current environmental conditions of each respective habitat. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present investigation was to investigate lingual structure in adult budgerigar. METHODS: Tongues of 12 adult budgerigars were used ...
متن کاملTongue structure in the long-eared hedgehog (Hemiechinus auritus): A scanning electron microscopic study
The aim of this study was to investigate the dorsal surface of the long-eared hedgehog tongue using scanning electron microscopy. The tongue of the long-eared hedgehog is rectangular-shaped with an elongated body and a widened root and a marked deep median groove can be seen on its dorsal surface. A characteristic feature of the lingual root is presence of two huge laterally situated folds. The...
متن کاملLight and electron microscopic study of the tongue in the White-eared bulbul (Pycnonotus leucotis)
The aim of the present study was to investigate the light and electron microscopic structure of the tongue in White-eared bulbul (Pycnonotus leucotis). Six adult White-eared bulbul (3 males and 3 females) in Shahrekord district were used in the investigation. Samples of the apex, body and root of the tongue were prepared routinely for light and electron microscopic study. Results showed that th...
متن کاملMorphological and histochemical investigation of the camel (Camelus dromedarius) abomasal mucous membrane by light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
Morphological and histochemical study of the abomasal epithelium in camel (Camelus dromedarius) wascarried out by light and scanning electron microscopes. The lining of the abomasum was divided into fourregions, i.e. cardiac, pseudocardiac, fundic and pyloric. Our investigation revealed that the cardiac andpseudocardiac regions occupy a wide part of the abomasum in camel and it reaches approxim...
متن کاملUse of scanning electron microscopy to confirm the identity of lice infesting communally grazed goat herds.
Lice have been described on goats in commercial farming systems in South Africa but not from flocks on communal grazing. During a longitudinal survey on the causes of goat kid mortality, conducted in Jericho district, North West Province, lice were collected from communally grazed indigenous goats. These lice were prepared for and viewed by scanning electron microscopy, and micro-morphological ...
